Transcendients: 100 Days of COVID-19 at JANM

Japanese American National Museum, Los Angeles, California

April 2021 - May 2021

In March 2020, as stay-at-home orders were imposed on much of the United States and the world, the artist Taiji Terasaki responded to the pandemic by undertaking a meditative art-making process. Socially distanced in his studio, and seeking to find light in positive stories, he set out to create one work every day for 100 days and post an image of it on Instagram.

The weavings of Transcendients: 100 Days of COVID-19 were created over a one-hundred day period, one each day. They highlight a variety of issues, and tell stories of people across the country reaching out to those in need during difficult times.

Transcendients: 100 Days of COVID-19 was part of the exhibition RESET/RESHAPE, which was on view at the Schaefer International Gallery at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, from September 22 - December 18, 2021. It was previously exhibited as part of Transcendients: Heroes at Borders at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, from April 16, 2021 - May 16, 2021.
