We Are Oceania is rooted in the history of
the Indigenous people who navigated the vast North Pacific, known today as Micronesia. Recent Micronesian immigrants to Hawai‘i face many challenges after arriving, including assimilating to Hawaiian and American culture and accessing available services, without losing their home traditions and values. They also represent nearly a quarter of confirmed COVID-19 cases, despite making up only four percent of the state’s population.
