Students in the program, which helps current and former foster youth stay in college and graduate, have been dramatically affected by COVID-19. Most have no parents or families to support them financially during the crisis; many have been terminated from their jobs in restaurants, cafes, and retail stores; and some have left dorms for health reasons. Sonja and Xochitl continue to support their students, from providing cash for groceries and rent to hula-hooping on Zoom calls to brighten the mood.
