DAY 62: GEORGE HOLLIDAY, DARNELLA FRAZIER

Witnesses, Los Angeles, CA (George); Minneapolis, MN (Darnella)

Twenty-nine years ago, on March 3, 1991, a man named George Holliday ran with his Sony Handycam to record four LAPD officers violently beating a Black motorist, Rodney King, after pulling him over. And now, just three weeks ago, on May 25, we witnessed the viral video of a Black man, George Floyd, who took his last breath before our eyes. Darnella Frazier, 17 years old, pulled out her iPhone to record a 10-minute, 6-second video of a white Minneapolis police officer pressing his knee into Floyd’s neck, killing him.

It’s individuals like Holliday and Frazier who call attention to situations like these. Thank you to those who are protesting peacefully, standing up and raising your voices. Let the world hear that Black lives matter.
