Food as Pathways to Nourishment, Community & Planetary Care
Mural Conservancy of Los Angeles, 260 S. Main St., DTLA. February 2020.
Initiated in 2020 by Taiji Terasaki in response to COVID-19 and systemic racism, Right Now, Create invited over 600 community members to contribute hand-made tiles to a large-scale mural installed at the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center in Los Angeles. Each tile reflects a message of grief, hope, or action — forming a collective voice of resistance and renewal. Terasaki collaborated with nonprofits The Ron Finley Project, Alma Backyard Farms, LA Mission, and Fallen Fruit.
Augmented Reality
The mural will be designed to invite neighborhood residents and Downtown Los Angeles visitors to download recipes and view interviews and information on the participants via augmented reality (AR) elements embedded in the mural. Viewers will be able to access this content through their cell phones.
Thank you Future Arts for collaborating with us in producing the augmented reality experience.
