In Morphogenesis: Beauty and the Monstrous, the same forces that generate crystalline symmetry can, when unrestrained, give rise to pathological excess such as tumor growth. Both beauty and the monstrous emerge from matter’s innate drive to form — one achieving harmony through balance, the other spiraling into uncontrolled proliferation.
Rooted in my personal reckoning and vision of eradicating the cancer, this work transforms the tumor into a metaphor for unbounded morphogenesis — the same generative force that builds, yet can also consume. Within this paradox lies the essence of my inquiry: that the processes governing both healing and decay, both crystal and flesh, arise from a single energetic continuum.
Each painting manifests as a crystalline surface, where chemical reactions enact the tension between balance and collapse. Here, beauty and the monstrous coexist in fragile equilibrium — a luminous threshold where creation and destruction converge as all form dissolves back into the formless.
This depiction helps me visualize my recovery.
